This Years Festival Program Is Finally Out

From August 28th to September 3rd, the sixth edition of the Oslo Pix Film Festival will be held. Today, the entire festival program is released; it includes over 100 films, outdoor cinema, exciting debates, world premieres, and guests from both domestic and international locations.

The festival showcases highlights from Cannes, features a masterclass with the emerging Swedish director Isabella Eklöf, focuses on indigenous people, presents the new Norwegian film LARS ER LOL, provides an artistic perspective on 90s Oslo, pays homage to Jane Birkin, presents short films from and about Oslo, offers culinary cinema based on the dark thriller comedy THE MENU, and hosts the Oslo premiere of HØR HER’A.

You can buy tickets and festival passes for the festival on the Nordisk Film website and Vega Scene's website, or at the counter at the screening venues.

This year, Oslo Pix Film Festival introduces something new: 'Day Passes'. These passes are only valid for either Saturday, September 2nd, or Sunday, September 3rd. The price for a day pass is 400 Kr and it grants you free entry to all film screenings on the day you've purchased the pass for.

You can also still purchase festival passes. The price for a festival pass is 1175 Kr and these passes provide you with unrestricted access to all regular screenings.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM CANNES

Oslo Pix Filmfestival is set to showcase highlights from Cannes, and this year we are particularly pleased to include a total of ten films from the world's most important film festival. Among these are the winner of this year's Palme d'Or, the opening film, and other movies that have garnered significant attention.

The films from Cannes are:

The critically acclaimed ÀMA GLORIA, the grand costume drama JEANNE DU BARRY starring Johnny Depp, the unpredictable THE SWEET EAST that took Cannes by storm, the powerful debut film HOW TO HAVE SEX, the futuristic animation MARS EXPRESS, the Palme d'Or winner ANATOMY OF A FALL, the latest film from legend Ken Loach, THE OLD OAK, the Serbian indie film LOST COUNTRY, and the beautiful AUTUMN LEAVES by Aki Kaurismäki, which is this year's closing film.

PIX PORTRAIT: ISABELLA EKLÖF

Filmmaker Isabella Eklöf is currently one of the most exciting nordic filmmakers, and she will soon be releasing the film adaptation of Kim Leine's book 'Kalak,' where Emil Johnson plays the lead role.

You can meet her at the festival on Tuesday, August 29th, when she will be hosting a masterclass at Vega Scene. Following that, there will be a screening of her feature film debut 'HOLIDAY' and Ali Abbasi's 'BORDER,' for which she has written the screenplay.

THE IDIGENOUS SECTION

In recent years, the lack of rights for indigenous people has increasingly come to light. Not because there's an absence of indigenous activists, but because the public is only now truly recognizing the indigenous peoples struggle for their own language, identity, art, and culture. The battle is fought in various ways and film as a tool of expression can provide a greater understanding and empathy than any other art form. Therefore, we have chosen to dedicate a section to indigenous peoples in North America and the Nordic region, featuring both documentaries and fiction films.

The films in this section include TWICE COLONIZED, FANCY DANCE, SLASH/BACK, and GRØNLANDS STEMME, along with the school program consisting of LA ELVA LEVE, KAMPEN OM GRØNLAND, and RAČHAN - ELLAS KAMP.

HOMAGE TO JANE BIRKIN

Actress and singer Jane Birkin passed away this summer, in homage we will be screening two documentaries about her life at the festival. JANE BY CHARLOTTE is made by her daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and the legend Agnès Varda is behind JANE B. PAR AGNÈS V.

"LARS ER LOL"

Amanda is deeply in love with her classmate Adam, but she's too afraid to show her feelings and can barely say hello. Everything becomes much more complicated when Amanda is assigned to be a mentor for Lars, the new boy in the class who has Down syndrome.

Compelling, funny, important, and imaginative – these are all keywords that describe this fall's major family film, LARS ER LOL, and the screening will take place on Sunday, September 3rd, at Ringen Cinema.

PORTRAIT OF OSLO

Film is a source of nostalgia and historical descriptions. We want to showcase how the capital city has appeared on film throughout the years, and therefore, we have created a new section; Portrait Oslo. At this year's festival, we explore the 90s with director Jannicke Systad Jacobsen's three selected films: HERMAN (1990), BUDBRINGEREN (1997), and the charming TV documentary ALT FOR DAMENE (1999) about the new and the old in Grünerløkka.

CURRENT DOCUMENTARIES PART OF PIX POLITICS

Film is an excellent medium for conveying insight and knowledge about complex societal issues. In this year's section of Pix Politics, there will be discussions about the shattered housing dream for many, in connection with the world premiere of Aslaug Holm's BLOKKA; a political debate about nuclear power involving party youth organizations, based on the documentary ATOMIC HOPE. We also question whether giving birth in Norway is a risky endeavor, with the screening of the French feature film MIDWIVES, and explore what to expect from the 2024 American election, using the Danish documentary A STORM FORETOLD, focused on Trump's political advisor Roger Stone.
