Continue the Pride celebrations in August!
Pride Month is drawing to a close, but there's no reason to stop celebrating diversity. At the festival in August, we're screening several films with queer themes.
BITTER CHRISTMAS
Raúl has writer's block. No matter what he does, he can't get out of it. In the past he's found inspiration in his boyfriend Santí, but that well has run dry. When his loyal assistant, Mónica, has to take time off work to deal with a personal crisis, he finds inspiration in her tragedy.
ERUPCJA
On a vacation to Poland with her boyfriend Rob, Bethany (played by Charli XCX) reunites with her former friend Nel, and an immediate attraction sparks between them. Bethany is certain that Rob will propose to her on the trip, but does she actually want to marry him?
FANTASY
Mihrije, Sina, and Jasna are three tomboys in their early twenties who refuse to conform to conservative Slovenian society. When they meet the trans woman Fantasy, who has freed herself from the social norms holding them back, their views on gender, sexuality, and identity are challenged.
FLESH AND FUEL
Two truck drivers fall in love, but with completely different routes, building a relationship proves difficult. This is a low-key, romantic film about a relationship developing amid routines in a busy everyday life, one that refreshingly avoids becoming a "coming out" story. Both have supportive families, and their sexuality is entirely unproblematic. The challenges they face instead relate to work, class, and immigration status.
FOLLIES
François and Julie have been together for 16 years and have decided to open up their relationship. Julie is somewhat reluctant, but when she's invited to become a third person in a polyamorous relationship with two women, she begins to understand the liberation François has been longing for in opening the relationship.
ROSE
Sandra Hüller shines in this beautiful period drama, which earned her the Best Actress award at the Berlin Film Festival. ROSE is a clever exploration of gender privilege and a rare, meticulously crafted work on every level, one that also manages to be surprisingly funny despite its weighty themes.
SEX
Two chimney sweepers surprise each other over lunch. Both have had jarring experiences related to their own sexuality. One reveals that he recently had sex with another man, but is completely baffled that his wife thinks he's been unfaithful. The other is troubled by a vivid dream in which David Bowie looks at him as if he were a woman. Can their lives go on as before?
TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA
A director is set to make a sequel in a slasher franchise and becomes fixated on getting the film's original «final girl» for the lead role. Jane Schoenbrun follows up I SAW THE TV GLOW with their best film yet. A hypnotic, funny, and self-reflexive film about pop culture, identity, violence and sex, and how these are all often completely intertwined.
This screening is part of the festival's programme launch on 06.08. Keep an eye on our website for tickets to the screening.
