Memory of Princess Mumbi

The year is 2093, and filmmaker Kuve travels to Umata to document life after a war that made all modern technology illegal.

The country of Umata lies on the African coast. Twenty years have passed since a world war, and in Umata and its neighbouring countries, the victorious traditionalist forces have banned all digital technology, which they claim made the population depressed. In the middle of all this is European filmmaker Kuve, who wants to make a documentary proving that the population is still depressed. He recruits local actress Mumbi, who challenges him to make the film without artificial intelligence. On set, a romance develops between them, but Mumbi has been promised to the prince of a neighbouring country.

MEMORY OF PRINCESS MUMBI is a hugely impressive film made on a micro-budget, combining AI-generated visuals with a postmodern, self-reflexive story about art and technology. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year.
