A two-metre-tall girl is recruited to play elite basketball in the Soviet Union in the 1960s.
Ulya grows up in a remote farming community in the Soviet Union, where her family worries that her height will make it difficult for her to find her place in the world. When she is discovered by basketball coaches from Riga, she is invited to play for an elite team in the capital.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and is a beautiful biographical film about a person very few of us in Norway have heard of. Yet it tells a fascinating and universal story about being different, shot in striking black and white.
