Claudia is an elderly, terminally ill woman who lives with her husband Flavio and their caring, concerned daughter Violeta. Under the guise of a wedding, Claudia and Flavio gather their three children for one last celebration. They have decided to travel to Switzerland to carry out assisted suicide together: Claudia because of her incurable brain tumor, and Flavio because he cannot imagine living without his beloved.

They Will Be Dust is a film filled with philosophical reflections on the end of life, wistful memories, and thoughts on a world that will continue after one’s death. It is a tragic and moving story about our relationship with mortality. Yet the film also breaks up this dark theme with touches inspired by the world of musicals, featuring striking dance sequences. The result is a work that encompasses anger, grief, and unease – but also serenity.
