Dreams in Nightmares

Z, Tasha, and Lauren set off on a road trip across the U.S. to find Kel, the fourth member of their friend group who hasn’t been heard from in a long time.

All the friends are African American and queer, living in liberal cities like New York and Los Angeles. But they don’t have to travel far before finding themselves in a much more conservative America. With Dreams in Nightmares, second-time director Shatara Michelle Ford has crafted a poetic film about friendship and solidarity, with political urgency and realism from a U.S. where marginalized groups are especially vulnerable.
