Fifteen-year-old Ahmet finds joy in EDM amid an otherwise bleak daily life in a remote village in North Macedonia.

After his mother’s death, Ahmet is pulled out of school to help his father run the family farm. One night, he stumbles upon a rave deep in the forest – and a new world opens up. There, he meets Aya, who he quickly realizes is trying to avoid an arranged marriage. Ahmet decides to help her.

DJ Ahmet has been compared to Footloose by several film critics, but updates the core story with a thoughtful take on the tensions between generations, between religious and secular values — and between different social classes.
