This year's award winners at Oslo Pix Film Festival
This year's jury award winners at the 9th edition of Oslo Pix Filmfestival have been announced. Grand Pix: Nordic Fiction goes to NIPSTER by Sunniva Eir Tangvik Kveum, and Grand Pix: Nordic Documentary goes to PETROLHEADS by Emil Langballe.
Honorable mentions goes to WEIGHTLESS (Nordic Fiction) and BIRITA (Nordic Documentary)
GRAND PIX: NORDIC FICTION
NIPSTER (Sunniva Eir Tangvik Kveum)
The prize for Nordic Fiction went to NIPSTER, directed by Sunniva Eir Tangvik Kveum. An honourable mention went to WEIGHTLESS, directed by Emilie Thalund.
Jury's statement, NIPSTER:
"Oslo Pix's main prize in the Nordic Fiction competition goes to a film that, with impressive insight and nerve, takes us on a journey where the boundaries between community, ideology and reality are gradually displaced. The fundamental theme is the need to belong. With intimate knowledge and great courage, the filmmaker takes us into a merciless environment of radicalisation that feels frighteningly relevant. The raw, powerful depictions of milieu, the surprising scenes — and not least the difficult dilemmas the young protagonist is subjected to and the fateful choices she makes — took hold of the jury and lingered long after the film had ended. The prize therefore goes to Nipster, directed by Sunniva Eir Tangvik Kveum and starring Saga Stenman."

Honourable mention, WEIGHTLESS:
"The jury wishes to give an honourable mention in the Nordic Fiction competition to a debut film that describes, with great tenderness and precision, the pain of growing up. The setting depicted is a so-called health camp for young people, and for a long time we believe it will be about the weight of the 15-year-old protagonist. But the theme is her infatuation with the adult leader — an infatuation she has every reason to believe is reciprocated. Slowly, the boundaries between dream and reality shift in a way that is both surprising and recognisable. Vægtløs, directed by Emilie Thalund, offers no easy answers, but a rare and beautiful glimpse into a young person's first, faltering steps into their own desire."

GRAND PIX: NORDIC DOCUMENTARY
PETROLHEADS (Emil Langballe)
The prize for Nordic Documentary went to PETROLHEADS, directed by Emil Langballe. An honourable mention went to BIRITA, directed by Búi Dam.
Jury's statement for the winning film, PETROLHEADS:
"From the wonderful opening to the moving conclusion, the director takes us through a story told with uncompromising conviction. With humour and a hard, energetic score combined with long, quiet tableaux that create a dynamic in the visual language. The film has a dark subject matter, but also humour and warmth in an intimate and honest portrait. A small yet great story about friendship that strikes a chord with us."

Jury's statement for the honourable mention, BIRITA:
"The honourable mention goes to a warm and intimate documentary with a fine visual language. In a calm and gentle way, the film lets us get to know a person and a family, while also giving us a glimpse into life in an island community. The film holds love, vulnerability and grief all at once. It makes us reflect on identity, the passage of generations, and on what it means to be close to a person who is gradually disappearing from themselves. The film moved us, gave room for reflection, and stayed with us long after it had ended."
