Band
An Icelandic art-rock band has one year to succeed as pop stars. If this does not work out, the band is dissolved forever. BAND is an energetic documentary about friendship, balancing art and home life, and becoming stronger through failure.
Álfrún, Hrefna, and Saga put together what they call «The Post Performance Blues Band» – an Icelandic art rock band. They give themselves one year to become pop stars. If this does not work out the band will be dissolved. What follows is a documentary that plays with the documentary genre and is an energetic story of sisterhood, balancing the artist's life with family life and the meaning of friendship. Director Álfrún Helga Örnólfsdóttir, who is also one of the band members, tells the story in a dreamlike manner through flashbacks, musical sequences, and performance art mixed into a more traditional documentary style. This is a completely unique film experience about becoming stronger through failure.
«Band is a great blend of documentary and comedy, following a unique and charming group of women. Their openness and self-awareness in making this film is something special. It’s both eccentric and hugely relatable, in struggling to succeed at something you’re so passionate about.»
