Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
A unique film about a tiny shell looking for his family.
Marcel is a tiny shell with one plastic eye and two small legs living with his grandmother Connie in an Airbnb in Los Angeles. A long time ago they lived as part of a larger community of small shell creatures, but after a mysterious tragedy Connie and Marcel are the only ones left. When a documentary filmmaker checks into the Airbnb he soon discovers Marcel and decides to help look into what happened to the family that disappeared.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is the most creative and charming film of the year and was met with huge acclaim when it premiered in the US this summer. The film builds on a series of short films that went viral in 2010, and the film made out of these cute, little vignettes is really impressive in its emotional punch when we are brought along on the journey to locate the missing family. An impressive combination of live action and stop motion animation, along with fantastic voice acting from Jenny Slate and Isabella Rossellini, makes this a truly unique film.
