Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, LeAnn Rimes. We are sure that each of these wonderful singers should have a film of their own. We are showing films about fierce ladies with their impressive voices every evening at 8.30pm.
A series of films that have great women voices artists as a focus has to begin with the undoubtable queen Beyoncé.
Dreamgirls was not Beyoncé´s acting debut. She has played in a series of films before. Her probably best known role to this date was Foxxy Cleopatra in the third of Austin Powers-films Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002). Nevertheless, Dreamgirls was an important turning point in her career as an actress. The film is based on the prestigious Broadway-musical of the same title and for the first time Beyoncé is in a main role in a high profile Academy Award winning film.
The film is a fictionalized story of the band The Supremes and follows its career in the 1960s and 70s. Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson og Anika Noni Rose play the three band members. When it came out in 2006 the film was warmly received and was nominated in several Oscar categories. Above all it was Hudson who had her great breakthrough in this film and won an Oscar for her role.
