The Luckiest Man in America
An unemployed ice cream truck driver enters the game show Press Your Luck, but he has a secret: he knows how to win an unlimited amount of money.
In 1984, one of the biggest scandals in live game show history took place. Michael Larson managed to crack the code behind Press Your Luck — the seemingly random spins actually followed five fixed light patterns. That’s how he broke all records and won $110,000. The Luckiest Man in America is a partially biographical retelling of the events in the form of a thriller.
The American Dream – was it always a dark comedy?
Few narratives have been as central to the rise of US military and economic power as the American Dream. But the statistics are clear: the Dream is less attainable than ever. And for those who do experience it today, it carries a darkly comic edge. Luck was never meant to be the answer to success in America – that belongs to Norway’s Askeladd dream. This film opens new doors into these mythologies.
Podcast host and screenwriter Gjermund Eriksen will introduce the screening of THE LUCKIEST MAN IN AMERICA on Thursday 28.08 at 18:15.
