When Balthazar connects online with a boy who claims he’s planning a school shooting, he becomes convinced that he can stop it from happening.
Balthazar’s motivation to stop the school shooting stems from the attention he’s gained online by posting intense, tearful – though performative – reaction videos to such tragedies. In his debut feature, Oscar Boyson delivers a dark satire about the alienation of young men and America’s obsession with guns, wrapped in a twisted coming-of-age comedy.
Why do school shootings keep happening – and how stories can make a difference.
No one, neither on the left nor the right in the US, supports school shootings. But the political will and ability to address the root causes require stories that can shake people out of entrenched positions and patterns of thought.
