Marie Antoinette
Post-punk, pastels, and macarons. This is Sofia Coppola’s modern masterpiece about France’s most misunderstood monarch.
At the age of 14, Marie Antoinette is married off to the heir to the French throne and sent to Versailles. Isolated and surrounded by expectations, she seeks refuge in parties, fashion, and excess — and ends up as France’s most infamous teenager.
Coppola’s innovative ambitious project — featuring an anachronistic soundtrack with some of the best tracks from New Order, The Cure, and The Strokes — mirrors the lavish life at Versailles.
The film will be screened in a fitting setting: the banquet hall Speilen at Grand Hotel, as part of this year’s culinary film program.
