Fabel
Narrative and absurd cinematic play.
The script for Fabel was written by Erik Løchen. This was Løchen’s final major film experiment, with director Jan Erik Düring largely serving as a direct conduit for Løchen’s ideas. Here, even more than in his earlier work, Løchen is preoccupied with finding new ways to tell a story.
The plot itself is simple enough: a woman runs over a dog, and the accident is investigated by the police. She meets a man in a gallery, and they begin a relationship. But aside from this straightforward storyline, nothing about Fabel is simple. It is an absurd film, inspired by Eugène Ionesco and Samuel Beckett's theatre of the absurd.
