The Long Road to the Director's Chair

Vibeke Løkkeberg was invited to the Berlinale in 1973 with the film ABORT and participated in and filmed the first women's film seminar held during the festival.

When Vibeke Løkkeberg filmed the first women's film seminar, she captured much of the spirit of the times in feminist circles, where issues of women’s liberation and the right to bodily autonomy were central. A key topic at the seminar was the lack of women's access to the film and television industry, and many of the comments made at the time still resonate today.

This documentary was rediscovered and restored nearly 50 years later, received significant attention at this year’s Berlinale, and is now touring numerous international film festivals.
