Leaving Jesus
Award-winning filmmaker Ellen Fiske's new documentary depicts ex-fundamentalists journeying towards new lives, separate from the congregations that once defined them.
How do you live when the ground you built your life one crumbles beneath your feet? How can meaning return when faith has failed? At a retreat arranged by Journey Free, an American organisation for people transitioning out of religion, attendees seek solutions to these questions.
Attentive to both joy and strife, Leaving Jesus follows individuals who have left fundamentalist Christianity as they craft their new normal. Director Ellen Fiske captures her subjects with both scope and depth, resulting in a sensitive portrayal of the power of faith, for better and worse.
