La Cocina
An intense, well-acted film about the lives of kitchen workers, primarily consisting of illegal immigrants, at a lunch restaurant in New York.
It is lunchtime at The Grill, a tourist trap in New York that serves thousands of customers on a typical Friday. Some money is missing from the register, and all the workers are being questioned. One of the cooks is Pedro, a young Mexican who dreams of something more in life than what the job offers. He is also in love with Julia, an American waitress who does not want to enter into a relationship with an immigrant without a residence permit. The film premiered at the Berlinale earlier this year.
