Green Border
A Syrian refugee family, an English teacher from Afghanistan, and a border guard meet at the border between Poland and Belarus during a humanitarian crisis.
Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has enticed immigrants from the Middle East and Africa with promises of safe passage into Europe. As a result, several refugees find themselves in the dangerous zone – referred to as the «death zone» – between the two countries. Director Agnieszka Holland masterfully shows how ordinary people become pawns in a cruel game between the border guards of Belarus and Poland. In this way, it offers an essential critique of the EU's handling of refugees from outside Europe.
