G - 21 Scenes From Gottsunda
Growing up in one of Sweden’s «no-go zones,» crime seemed like a likely path for Loran Batti. In G – 21 SCENES FROM GOTTSUNDA, he tags along his friends who went down it, camera in hand.
Filmmaker Loran Batti grew up in Gottsunda, Uppsala, a municipality often described as a «no-go zone» due to the proliferation of violence, drug abuse, and crime. While many of his childhood friends got involved with organised crime at an early age, a life he was not cut out for, the friendships remain to this day. Batti at least prepares to leave his childhood home behind, but not before he finishes a film that only he is equipped to make: A documentary about his friends, Gottsunda, and himself.
G – 21 scenes from Gottsunda is the result of five years of work and unique insider access to Sweden’s culture of organised crime. These 21 scenes weave sound- and video recordings into a complex tale of life and death at the outskirts of society, reflecting upon the nature of crime, belonging, and identity.
