Utkilen: Jord over vind + Statement Too

Meet Joern Utkilen, one of Norway’s most singular filmmakers, and the director behind this year’s opening film Lake Over Fire. Utkilen has previously crafted a number of award-winning short films, and Oslo Pix are thrilled to be able to present two of them in this special screening.

The mid-length Earth Over Wind is an absurd comedy about people in a small village in southern Norway. All characters play fictionalised versions of themselves, and one overarching theme in their stories is, perhaps, the longing to be seen as the person you really are. However, the film is more occupied with finding the tension and humor within each scene than with creating a narrative whole. Statement Too is a documentary about cult-musician Arvid Sletta.

The films are shot in Lista in Vest-Agder and Kyrksæterøra in Trøndelag respectively. They reflect a filmmaker who excels in depicting characters and landscapes in ways that inspire reflection, association and not least recognition.
