In this satirical drama set in the art world, Søren Malling plays Simon, an artist at the peak of his career. His work is exhibited all over the world, he has a young wife and an even younger mistress, and a bunch of hipster assistants work their asses off to put his ideas into practice. One day, his son Casper from a previous marriage turns up and becomes a trainee at his workplace. Simon is put off by his arrival, as Casper’s street artist credibility and working methods are incomprehensible to him. Moreover, the women in Simon’s life seem to find the mysterious Casper quite attractive.

It is not easy to tell what’s bothering Simon the most: his emerging midlife crisis, his feeling of guilt for leaving Casper’s mother behind way back then, or his fear of becoming irrelevant as an artist. In any case, it’s quite entertaining to watch him suffer. Besides, you don’t need to know much about art to be able to appreciate The Man. It offers a witty and poignant depiction not only of its milieu, but of the conflict between generations, and the clash between two men with ridicilously large egos. CF
