Princess Mononoke is often referred to as the «Star Wars of animated films». It is set to 12th century Japan, where the young prince Ashitaka is exposed to a supernatural infection giving him superhuman powers – but also the promise of a certain death. In his hunt for a cure he travels to Irontown, where he is wrapped up in a war between the guardians of the forest, led by the fabled Princess Mononoke, and the head of Irontown, Lady Eboshi. The film is directed by Hayai Miyazaki, known for films such as My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Mononoke is a proper adventure film, with fantastic set of characters and an epic world that even surpasses the Disney universe. The environmental themes – where nature is set up against civilization – is even more relevant today than ever before. The film will be shown in Norwegian theaters for the first time in Japanese with Norwegian subtitles. MWV
