An exploration of the depth of repetition, the texture in outer monotony: What internal movements emerge? What kind of consciousness arises?

My documentary film STRAFF, which is an observational study of a Jesuit silent retreat for inmates in a maximum-security prison, and therefore includes several one-on-one conversations between inmate and priest, is here presented in a remixed version that offers a different and uncompromising experience of silence.

In the work on a silent version, the possibility of rearranging scenes emerged to build a unique time-space for the movement of the viewer's consciousness, and further, hopefully, allow it to move closer to a heightened, concentrated experience of the materiality of silence that embraces the participants of the retreat.
