Pink Flamingos Special Screening Buy tickets

«One of the most vile, stupid and repulsive films ever made.»

This is how Pink Flamingos was described when it was reviewed in the film magazine Variety in 1973. John Waters’ filthy trash masterpiece is an American cult film at its very best. The film is as shocking (and funny) today as it was when it came out more than 50 years ago, and the star of the film – the iconic Divine – has left a mark as one of the greatest queer icons in film history.

In collaboration with the National Museum and Cinema Neuf Filmklubb, Oslo Pix Filmfestival presents Pink Flamingos by John Waters at the National Museum 29. August at 17:30. The film will be introduced by Åshild Livsdatter Brinchmann Løvvig from Cinema Neuf Filmklubb

More about the film:

Babs Johnson, played by Divine, is on the run from the police and is hiding in a trailer park outside of Baltimore with her son Crackers, best friend Cotton, and a mother obsessed with eggs. When Babs is named «The Filthiest Person Alive» by a magazine, a local couple is enraged. They claim that they deserve the title, and initiate a cunning plan to get rid of Babs. John Waters, also referred to as «The Pope of Trash», made his mark with boundary-pushing underground films in the 1960s, but it was with his magnum opus, Pink Flamingos, he broke through. By challenging the limits of what is allowed to be shown on film, and exploring the audiences' ideas of what can be considered good and bad taste, he is behind some of the most important queer films of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
