COMPETITION PROGRAMS

This year’s festival includes four different competitions, which truly represent the crème de la crème of the entire program.

Seven films are competing for our Oslo Grand Pix International Award. They are films of extremely high quality which we guarantee will move its audience. The winner of this award receives 10.000 NOK, generously donated by the Institut Français and TV5 Monde, and you can read all about the International competition by clicking here.

One of our main areas of focus is Nordic films, and just like last year there are two competitions for Nordic films: The Oslo Grand Pix Nordic Feature, and Oslo Grand Pix Nordic Documentary. The winners of each award respectively receive 25.000 NOK, with the kind support of our main sponsor Blockbuster. Click here for more information about the Nordic Feature competition, and here for the Nordic Documentary competition.

On top of all that, we also have an Audience Award – which is your chance as an audience member to have your voice heard! The nominees are all the films competing in the three main competitions, as mentioned above. More information on how to vote will be released shortly.

The biggest Hollywood productions and the smallest indie flick

In order to make the festival program even more accessible, we’ve divided it into some main sections with a few more sub-sections.

The first main section contains all three of the aforementioned competition programs. New this year is the Headliners section, which brings exciting previews of big international productions to the Oslo audience.

Pix Discovery contains international and Norwegian indie films, genre films, family friendly screenings, and more.

Discovery also includes the sub-section Pix Rendez-Vous, which is dedicated to Francophone cinema – in collaboration with Institut Français.

The third main section is called Pix Perspectives, and includes the three sub-sections Pix Politics and Pix on Art. Pix Politics is home to politically loaded documentaries and debates – this year, it ranges from feminism in Islam, Italian mafia, autism, and the end of the world. In Pix on Art, you can see films about other art forms (everything from boybands to Edvard Munch!). In Pix Portraits, we proudly present some of our brilliant festival guests of honour.

The cherry on top

We have a bunch of special events at this year’s festival, taking place in and out of the movie theatre. On the 5th of June, we take part in World Environment Day, as a proud partner of Oslo European Green Capital 2019. Two days later, we invite you to a boyband party. Join us at one, or both! Read more here.

Are you one of millions of Elena Ferrante fans? On the 4th of June, we go wild with a Ferrante double bill; with an official reception, a panel talk, and two film screenings. Click here for more info. If on the other hand you are more into Norwegian crime comedies from the 1970s and ‘80s, and don’t depend on English subtitles, check out our Olsenbanden marathon here.

One of our favourite films turns 40 this year! Ridley Scott’s pitch dark sci-fi epic Alien is being screened at two of the biggest screens of the festival, with happenings in the outdoors festival area to help celebrate its lasting impact. More info here. Another exclusive event is the special screening of All The President’s Men, with an intro by Bob Woodward himself.

Oslo, we are ready for seven days straight of celebrating cinema. We hope you will join us!
