It is 1917. Edward is an employee of the British Empire and embarks on a journey through Asia after fleeing from his fiancée, Molly, on their wedding day. Initially driven by panic, Edward's travels gradually evolve into a melancholic exploration of existential loneliness. Determined to marry him, Molly follows Edward's footsteps across Asia.
Portuguese director Miguel Gomes's latest ambitious film debuted in the main competition at Cannes earlier this year.

Director
Miguel Gomes (b. 1972) is regarded as one of Portugal's most significant filmmakers. He started as a film critic before directing his first short film in 1999. His perhaps most well-known film, Arabian Nights, was shown in the Director's Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015.
