The video artwork BIRTHDAY GIRL highlights the child's boundless imagination as it encounters a vast and lonely world.

Through the artwork's childlike storytelling and use of color, the viewer is invited to reflect on the joy and vitality of a child's innocent perspective and how this can shed new light on our own experience of reality. As a child, I was completely fearless of the world and would run away at every opportunity to embark on my own adventures. I outgrew this recklessness, and in school, I began to experience anxiety about leaving home. As the birthday girl, I can fearlessly embark on my own journeys, but I take my home wherever I go—just like snails carry their homes.
