Love Child follows Leila, Sahand and their son Mani for several years while fleeing Iran to live together as a family in a free country. Back in Iran, both Leila and Sahand are married under difficult conditions. As a consequence, their love relationship can be punished to death, since divorce is not possible and adultery illegal. In order to give Mani the opportunity to grow up in a harmonious home with both his biological parents, Leila and Sahand invest everything as they head for Turkey to apply the UNHCR to be resettled in a third, safe country.

Love Child is an intimate documentary full of hope, despair and love. Director Eva Mulvad gives a unique insight into the family's ups and downs as a result of the long wait the UN bureaucracy requires, and she dares to show the difficult psychological and social consequences everyone in the family is experiencing as a result of having to live in a state of permanent uncertainty.
