Norwegian actress Lisa Loven Kongsli has an almost magnetic presence in this moving and cleverly constructed hybrid film. Kongsli plays Dara, an ethnologist at work in Lolland, a Danish island where a new underseas tunnel connecting Denmark and Germany will soon affect everyday life. Dara becomes deeply fascinated by the people and places of Lolland, and in particular by Agnes, a woman who mysteriously abandoned her house and her belongings and disappeared some years ago. Then Dara meets Lucek, a young Polish road worker, and she is madly attracted to him. Giraffe is a love story from the age of globalisation, but also a beautiful and somewhat melancholic film about what it means to understand your past and your future at the same time.

Anna Sofie Hartmann (b. 1984) is a Danish director from Lolland. She studied at the German film and television school DFFB in Berlin, where she now lives. Like her first feature film Limbo (2014), Giraffe has screened at many renowned film festivals.
