The love that is shared between Laurence (Melvil Poupaud) and his live-in girlfriend Fred (Suzanne Clément) seems so strong that nothing could ever tear them apart. When Laurence comes out as a trans woman, their relationship is nonetheless put to the test. Laurence Anyways follows two people who refuse to let one another go, through the entire 1990s.

Director and writer Xavier Dolan’s third and most ambitious feature film became a darling of critics and audiences alike after its debut at Cannes in 2012, and has not lost any momentum since then. Dolan has never painted a more beautiful picture than he does here, and all of it grows out from the durability of the relationship between Laurence and Fred. The pair share a bond so tight that it hurts. Melvil Poupaud and Suzanne Clément are both sensational in their interpretations of the lead characters, and become the anchor that grounds the wildly ambitious vision of Dolan. Laurence Anyways is one of the most sensuous and gripping love stories of this decade.
