Ervin

Who is Ervin? Until he was two years old, Ervin was a child like most others, a healthy and well-functioning boy with a completely normal development. But then, in the span of only a few months, his words and other taught social skills disappeared. What happens when a child can no longer express themselves and make themselves understood by their surroundings, not even by those closest to them?

Ervin is director Karoline Grindaker’s intimate portrait of a family with an autistic child. It is an observing film: With few words, but with very expressive images, situations, and moods it gives a glimpse into a challenging day-to-day family life, and the vulnerability of that family in their dealings with the «normal» outside world. We follow them in their search for a new landscape in which to communicate: in a delicate borderland somewhere between giving up, and having hope for their child and for the future.
