Miranda - En politiker blir till
Jimmie Åkesson and his party Sverigedemokratene achieve high numbers in opinion polls, just like a lot of other right-wing populist parties all over Europe. 14-year old Miranda, growing up in Åkesson’s sleepy hometown Sölvesborg, has signed up for the Youth Party and faces an illustrious career in politics, already talking about seats in Parliament. The documentary follows Miranda while her political ambitions grow, inspired and motivated by her brother, who is suffering from cancer, and her xenophobic mum. Seen through his camera lens, Mats Ågren presents to us an impartial observation of a political offspring and the milieu she steps into. Miranda’s portrait is a reflection of a changing Sweden and Europe, where value-conservative right-wing populists, drifting from their outsider’s position, are about to define major parts of the political landscape.
