Peter Latang is a successful stockbroker in New York. But then his grandmother dies – whom he hasn’t seen in years – and Peter has to return to his hometown to manage a few things after her death. In the taxi from the airport on his way to his small Rhode Island home town, he forgets his wallet, and reluctantly proceeds to borrow money from his childhood friend and neighbour Donald Treebeck. For some reason, Donald won’t leave Peter alone. What starts out as a simple favour between old friends turns into an intense night in which good memories and bad conscience of the past are evoked, and some surprising secrets revealed. Donald Cried is the type of comedy that will make many squirm in their seat. A film as unpredictable as its main character: raunchy, awkward and hysterically funny in one moment, but behind the rowdy façade hides sensitivity and intelligence. CF
