We are daily fed the idea that one both should and must own their own home. It's synonymous with being successful, but the housing dream is becoming increasingly distant for many, no matter how much equity they manage to scrape together. And when bidding wars are also happening in the rental market, living in Oslo becomes an unattainable dream for many. This, in turn, leads to greater and greater class disparities, and we pose the question of who should be able to reside in the capital.

About the film:

For several years, 30 residents in a block on Sagene have been in a battle against municipal decisions and the real estate empire of Ivar Tollefsen. With THE BLOCK, Aslaug Holm follows the residents of Maridalsveien 128 who refuse to give up and fight to keep their homes. Central to the film is the question: What will happen to our city when regular people are pushed out of their homes, and only the wealthy can afford to live in the central areas of Oslo? We invite you to an important conversation about our city during this year's festival leading up to the municipal election on September 11th.
