What really happened to the second Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dag Hammarskjöld? In 1961, Hammarskjöld was en-route to peace talks in the Congo crisis, when his plane crashed by Ndola in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). It was never discovered exactly why the plane crashed, or who might have been behind it; the UN Commission charged with investigating the case, put forward theories of everything from sabotage to plain technical errors. However, they could not gather sufficient proof for any of their theories.

These fateful questions are at the core of the quest undertaken by Danish filmmaker Mads Brügger and Swedish private investigator Göran Björkdahl. In the process of their deep dive into the conspiracy theories surrounding the case of Hammarskjöld, they stumble upon something much darker and unfathomable than they could have imagined. The film, which premiered at Sundance, takes us all the way from Scandinavia to South Africa in its search for the truth.
